Cellsalts are used both as prevention and for treating disease symptoms. All those little aches and pains, discomforts and so on, are indications that something is not right. They are nature's warning signs.

"Should a deficiency occur in one or more of these workers, of whom there are twelve, some abnormal condition arises.

"These abnormal conditions are known by the general term disease, and according as they manifest themselves in different parts of the body, they have been designated by various names. But these names totally fail to express the real trouble.

"Every disease which afflicts the human race is due to a lack of one or more of these inorganic workers. Every pain or unpleasant sensation indicates a lack of some inorganic constituent of the body. Health and strength can be maintained only so long as the system is properly supplied with these cell-salts."

Different cellsalt formats

Cellsalts are generally in homeopathic form.

Other forms can be in milligram form or sometimes found in common household ingredients.  Below is a list of different formats.

Homeopathic 6x tablets from the health shop, chemist or online sources ( in australia www.cityhealth.com.au and www.healthbasket.com.au ).

Nat mur only works in homeopathic form and not as table salt which doesn't seem to work as a remedy for any of the symptoms.

Milligram type tablets such as Blackmores Professional Range which contain a certain amount of a given cellsalt, often in combination. -- available from healthshops and often chemists.

The calcium cellsalts can be taken in different forms such as dolomite (calcium and magnesium), calcium carbonate, gluconate, lactate -- generally available from chemists.

Calcium carbonate tablets are good because they are stronger and tablets can contain up to 500mg of elemental calcium in the one tablet, whereas with some of the other formats such as calcium gluconate up to 8 tablets need to be taken to get the same amount of calcium. However, they all seem to correct the 3 calcium cellsalts (calcium phosphate, sulphate and fluoride). In the case of dolomite, it also contains magnesium.

Common household ingredients.
Potassium cellsalts can be obtained from cream of tartar which is very economical and is a fabulous source of potassium.
Bicarbonate of soda seems to work very well for sodium phosphate and sulphate cellsalts.
I hear that pickling lime is a good source of calcium.
Epsom salts is said to be a good source of magnesium.

These common household ingredients are cheap and easy to find in the local  supermarket.

Where to purchase cellsalts

Generally from all health shops
Online sources such as www.cityhealth.com.au and www.healthbasket.com.au
Selected chemists

Household sources of cellsalts

The following information came from Dr Dennis L Myers, who had a website at  www.euroamericanhealth.com . This website isn't available any longer but is copied on this website and contains much information on the soil theory.

"Take 1 tablespoon of Pickling Lime, not pickling salt (to make pickles, get it in a store that sells supplies to can your own foods) and put 1 big tablespoon of that P. Lime in a gallon or so of distilled water.

"Mix it up and take a tablespoon of that solution (water and Pickling Lime) three to four times a day along with -

a teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and

a quarter tsp. of Cream of tarter (potassium tartratre) from the baking section of a grocery store.

"Pickling Lime is calcium hydroxide, a strong alkalinizing substance. After you drink that mixture take

a pinch of Epsom salts [magnesium sulfate from any drug store (a strong laxative) between your fingers and just put that in your mouth and let it dissolve.

"These are all the main minerals we need: calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium).

"Also, another cheap drink and most important: take 1 tablespoon or so of Black Strap Molasses and a teaspoon or so of powdered Kelp and half a lemon or Apple Cider Vinegar, lemon better and mix that up and drink it down, 3 - 4 times a day. This is for all the trace minerals there are. All minerals are alkaline and we are all acid, it's just a balancing act. "

Summary of Dr Myers' information

Sodium  Bicarbonate of soda
Potassium  Cream of tartar
Magnesium  Epsom salts is magnesium sulphate
Calcium Pickling lime (in US)
Trace minerals Black strap molasses and kelp

What is cream of tartar

Cream of tartar (potassium hydrogen tartrate) is a component of baking powder. (Baking powder comprises baking soda and cream of tartar.)

Cream of tartar is a by-product of winemaking; it's derived from refined tartaric acid, which forms on the inside of wine barrels, or from the whitish crystals (known as 'white diamonds') that precipitate out of some wines. It's used in baking and in making desserts. It gives a creamy texture to icings and is used to stabilise and increase the volume of beaten egg whites, so is often used in making meringues.  ( source )

How each cellsalt works

Cell salts work at a basic cellular level and provide the means whereby the actual cells are able to use organic substances (food) and water to operate normal functions within the body as well as repair it.

Briefly, the actions of each of the cell salts is given below.

Calcium Phosphate
Restores strength to the body, aids in growth and development and convalescence. Good for circulation, bones and teeth.

Calcium Sulphate
Blood purifier, cleans out accumulations of non-functional, organic matter in the blood and tissues. Good for catarrh and acne.

Calcium fluoride
Contributes to elasticity walls of blood vessels, muscular and connective tissue, surface of bones and tooth enamel. Is indicated where relaxed conditions exist, sluggish circulation, varicose veins, cracks in skin, cracked and calloused heels and muscular weakness.

Sodium Phosphate (nat phos)
Acid neutraliser, deficiency allows uric acid to form salts which become deposited around the joints and tissues giving rise to stiffness and swelling, and other painful rheumatic conditions. Highly coloured urine, worms, nervous irritability.

Sodium Sulphate (nat sulph)
Removes poison charged fluids which are the normal result of chemical exchanges in the body. Important in the treatment of rheumatism, bitter taste in the mouth, biliousness, flu and malaria.

Sodium Chloride (nat mur)
Regulates water distribution within the cells. Excessive moisture in any part of the system indicates nat mur deficiency.
Colds with discharge of watery mucus, wheezing, sneezing, blocked nose, itchy-sore throat, dry, painful nose and throat symptoms, toothache and facial neuralgia with flow of tears and saliva, eyes weak, the wind causes them to water.
Low spirits with a feeling of hopelessness, headaches with constipation, thin blood, difficult stools with rawness and soreness of the anus. Drowsiness, unrefreshing sleep - tired in the morning, loss of taste and smell, craving for salty foods and slow digestion.

Potassium Phosphate (kali phos)
Nerve nutrient, helps maintain contented disposition and sharpens the mental faculties. Sleeplessness, depression, lack of pep, foot odour.

Potassium Sulphate (kali sulph)
Works in conjunction with ferrum phos as an oxygen carrier. Sticky yellowish discharges, dandruff.

Potassium chloride (kali mur)
Thick white discharges, white coating on tongue, stops blood clots, light coloured stools, noisy coughs, colds, sore throats, bronchitis, symptoms worse after eating fatty foods, warts on hands.

Magnesium Phosphate
Deficiency causes spasms, twitching, and cramps. Indicated for nerve pains such as neuralgia, sciatica and pains associated with shooting, darting stabs of pain.

Silica / silicon dioxide
Deep cleanser and eliminator, breaks up pathological accumulations e.g., abscesses, breaks down calcium deposits and spurs. Treats offensive odour of the feet and arms, night sweats, itchy eyes and nose, ringing in the ears, good for sinus related problems.

Iron Phosphate (ferrum phos)
Known as the oxygen carrier, gives strength and toughness to arteries, blood vessels and skin. For congestion, inflammatory pain, high temperature, quickened pulse.
Conditions ending in -itis are considered to be inflammatory e.g., arthritis.

Of course, the best way to ensure you have sufficient minerals is to enjoy a healthy, well-balanced diet. However, because that can sometimes be hard to maintain, Maurice Blackmore developed Celloid® mineral compounds specially formulated to work at cell level.

The Blackmores Celloid® range today includes calcium, potassium, sodium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, silica, and chloride. When mineral supplementation is necessary, Celloid® compounds are easily absorbed to help bring your mineral levels back into balance, fast.

Trace elements

Various minerals are needed by the body in varying amounts -- they are classified into macro minerals and trace elements. Cellsalts are more in the line of macro minerals.
A deficiency of some trace minerals can have very severe symptoms, iodine for example. However, a discussion of trace minerals isn't included in this website. Some of the more common trace minerals are:

Iodine. Deficiency causes goitre and certain thyroid problems.

Copper– is a partner in the formation of hemoglobin and red blood cells because of its ability to increase iron assimilation. Together with iron copper helps the red blood cells transport oxygen. Cooper also lends both strength and elasticity to connective tissues.

Chromium– The blood balance of chromium aids in regulation of sugar levels in the blood; in amino acid metabolism in conjunction with insulin.
Selenium– is an essential trace mineral. It is part of the youth elements, that is it encourages tissue elasticity. It is an antioxidant, which naturally reduces retention of toxic metals in the body.

Molybdenum– Has direct correlation with the liver in the detoxification of substances, especially alcohol, sulfites and copper.

Vanadium– is required for building healthy bones, cartilage and teeth. It guards against too much cholesterol production in the body.

Boron– has gained recent interest as a beneficial trace mineral for bone growth and stability. Vital to the absorption of calcium, studies suggest that boron is responsible for converting vitamin D into its active form, as well as slowing calcium and magnesium loss in the urine.
